Review: Faking It by Cora Carmack

Faking It (Losing It #2)

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

My Thoughts:

This book is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.

I have a confession to make.I haven't read Losing It. I have it on my kindle and I started reading it but for some reason I just gave up on it. I think it had something to do with the fact that I was just too embarrassed with what had happened with Bliss or maybe it had something to do with the fact that my exams started and I just didn't have the time.

I still haven't read Losing It(Book #1) but after finishing Faking It, I'm seriously considering reading Losing It ASAP.

I've not had so much fun while reading a book for some time now! Faking it is HILARIOUS but it has it's emotional moments as well.I know there have been a string of New Adult novels coming out recently but Faking It stands out because

  •  the book is hilarious in parts
  •  the main male character is NOT a jerk/bad boy/sex crazed maniac
  • the female is a bad-ass with tattoos
  • it deals with issues but not in a preachy manner

Max and Cade seem like polar opposites but they make a great team. I loved the scenes in which Max's parents made an appearance because then the FUN began.

By the time they finished their cups of coffee,my parents would probably be begging to trade and have Cade as their child. ~ From E-ARC

Cade was a character I loved. I think I'm fed up of the "bad boys who treat females like crap  horribly" Cade was a true gentleman and I loved him for that. He didn't try to fake any of his emotions or feelings. He didn't lie and that made me want to give the guy a gold star.

Max's wit and sarcastic demeanor made me fall in love with her. There were some things I wasn't a huge fan of but they were necessary for character growth and development.

Overall, Faking it was fun and emotional at the same time. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes out for the sequel Finding It.

My Rating:

4/5

Great Fun!

Blog Tour: Dream Cast for My Sister's Reaper

Today I have the author Dorothy Dreyer talking about her dream cast for her book
My Sister's Reaper

ABOUT THE BOOK

My Sister's Reaper

by

Sixteen-year-old Zadie’s first mistake was telling the boy she liked she could bring her dead sister back to life. Her second mistake was actually doing it.

When Zadie accidentally messes with the Reaper’s Rite that should have claimed her sister Mara, things go horribly wrong. Mara isn’t the same anymore—Zadie isn’t even sure she’s completely human, and to top it off, a Reaper is determined to collect Mara’s soul no matter what. Now Zadie must figure out how to defeat her sister’s Reaper, or let Mara die … this time for good

GUEST POST
I don’t know if it’s every author’s dream to have their book made into a movie, but it’s definitely on my bucket list. But whom to cast? Well, I have an idea.

Here is my dream cast for MY SISTER’S REAPER:

Kelli Berglund as Zadie

Douglas Booth as Gavin

Jeremy Sumpter as Chase

Aimee Teergarden as Mara (normal Mara and “zombie” Mara)

Sarah Hyland as Naomi

The harder pick would be an actress to play Lilura. But it would have to be someone awesome at being snarky. The rest would be makeup and costume anyway. ;)

ABOUT DOROTHY DREYER:Dorothy Dreyer has always believed in magic. She loves reading, writing, movies, and spending time with her family and friends. Half-American and half-Filipino, Dorothy lives in Germany with her husband and two children.

DIVERGENT SHORT STORIES from Four POV

From the author's blog

Short version: there are going to be Divergent e-shorts!

Four of them!

And they will be about…drumroll, please…

Four!

(See what I did there?)

And the first one will be out on September 24th!

Long version: when my publisher approached me hoping that I would be able to write some extra Divergent content from them, I considered a few options for what I might write about, or whose perspective I might choose. Over time it became clear to me that the character I was most interested in exploring further was Four. Two reasons: first, I know his perspective is the one a lot of you are interested in reading (I get asked if I'm going to write anything else from his perspective all the time!), and hey, you're my readers and I like to write things you want to read; second, I was excited by the idea of expanding my own understanding of him, the way I did when I rewrote the knife-throwing scene from his perspective for the Free Four e-short.

For me, Four has never just been Tris’s love interest or a way for sexual tension to enter the story. He has always been a whole person with a history that affects him (and Tris) in significant ways, and a co-mover of the plot along with Tris. These stories are helping me to delve into his character in a way I never have before, and to build up parts of the world that Tris never experienced due to her limited perspective. Interestingly enough, they also affected the content of Allegiant, giving me more to draw from—awesome, right?

These stories will be longer than Free Four (Four’s retelling of the knife-throwing scene, which was only thirteen pages), and the first one will be out on September 24th. You can learn more official info here, too. And of course, I'll keep you informed of the other stories as information becomes available, too.

I for one, loved Free Four! AND HOW AWESOME IS THIS NEWS!

Don't know what the fuss is about?

Divergent (Divergent #1)
 Blurb:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

ABOUT FRIGID
Frigid (Frigid #1)
For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Review: Shatter Me

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1)
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

My Thoughts:

I've been hearing a LOT about Shatter Me for ages! Some people loved it and some people didn't like it that much. I was avoiding this book because I thought the hype might ruin it for me but I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and bought it!

This book is powerful and addictive. While you're reading it you might not realize how addicting it is but after it's over you have a NEED to find out what happens next and you want to read more about the characters. The best part is that the author manages to get you invested enough to want to follow the story without the help of a cliffhanger.

The story is written in a different way there are a lot of strikethrough's  and some people might get irritated with this but this is how the main character thinks. She's ashamed to even think these things and she can't rub them out ,so she tries to cut them out of her thoughts. I loved the fact that we could see the main characters unconscious desires and deepest darkest secrets.

Juliette is a character that I didn't fall in love with but I respect and understand her.I feel sorry for her but I don't have the urge to tell her to get it together. She's a character whose life isn't black and white. Her life is full of shades of grey. She's a very complex character. At times you question her sanity but she is the driving force behind the story.

Adam is a character who came off as too sweet to me. I was always suspicious of him. I have no idea why but I kept expecting him to transform into a super villain.Maybe that's just me though...

Warner is a complex character as well but for some reason I just liked him more than Adam. I didn't expect him to transform into a super villain because he already was one.I don't know why I like him when there's clearly something wrong with his head but I just do...

The story is interesting and keeps you engrossed till the end and at the end you're left wanting more. What more can you want from a book?

The only reason I'm not giving this book a 5 is because the romance between Adam and Juliette was too sickly sweet and screamed insta-love (This might be because I'm a Warner fan though).

Overall, An interesting book with complex characters and an interesting plot. This book stands out and leaves a big impact on you.I'm intrigued to know what happens next!

Note:
For the first time I've actually bought a novella(Destroy Me) because it's told from Warner's point of view.I'm THAT obsessed interested in this character!

My Rating:

4/5
