Prom Nights from Hell

Prom Nights From Hell

Blurb:
In Prom Dates from Hell, bestselling authors Meg Cabot (How to Be Popular), Stephenie Meyer (Twilight), Lauren Myracle (ttyl), Michele Jaffe (Bad Kitty) and Kim Harrison (A Fistful of Charms) take bad prom dates to a whole new level -- a paranormally bad level. From vampires to grim reapers to a creepy update on the classic three-wishes-gone-terribly awry tale "The Monkey's Paw," these stories will entertain better than any DJ in a bad tux can. No corsage or limo rental necessary. Just good, scary fun.

My thoughts: One  thing that everyone should know before they read this book is that none of the short stories are very scary.Which is good because if any of them would have been scary I wouldn't have read this book(  gets scared very easily +  an overactive imagination=NIGHTMARES for weeks)
This is the first anthology I've read and I really enjoyed it! I had picked up this book at a time when I'd read so many books that just didn't cut it and all of them kept going on and on and on.....(lots of series you see)
This book was like a breath of fresh air!
I loved all the short stories and almost all of them left me begging for more!
Stephenie Meyer's short story surprised me the most ! It was so different from Twilight and I liked the fact that she could write something that didn't focus completely on romance.

Lauren Myracle's story was definitely the creepiest.*SHUDDERS*

Kim Harrison's story was AWESOME! It's called Madison Avery and the Dim Reaper.NEED I SAY MORE? It's actually a prequel to Once Dead,Twice Shy. (I just found out!)  Thank god there's more because the ending of  this one was KILLER! Literally!

I liked Meg Cabot's story and Michele Jaffe's story too! Ok,I'll just say I really enjoyed this one  A LOT !
Pick this one up if you see it anywhere!

My Rating : 4.5/5

GUILTY PLEASURE

As part of the Earth Blog tour hosted by the awesome A Tale of Many Reviews today I have an excerpt of this book.........

by Shauna Granger

Blurb: Shayna and her two best friends have the abilities to manipulate and control the four elements, earth, air, water and fire. While learning to hone their growing powers, they discover a new and malicious presence in their sleepy beach town. Someone is performing blood magic and threatens to expose their small magical community. So far only small animals have been slaughtered, but then the nightmares start.

Shayna suffers nightmares of being chased and sacrificed only to wake up bloodied and bruised. She thinks her magical blood is the ultimate target for the final blood rite. When an innocent girl, Tracy, is kidnapped Shayna knows it's only a ploy to draw her out; she can't let someone die because of her.

EXCERPT

Jensen had stopped at the very edge of the front step when I turned on the light and was facing the door when I opened it. His skin looked luminescent in the darkness, making his blue eyes stand out in stark contrast, like an ocean just after a storm and the skies have opened up with brilliant sunlight.

“What are you doing here?” I whispered, happy to hear my voice was steady, if not suspicious.

“I was hoping we could talk?” he had the courtesy to whisper too.

“It’s after eleven o’clock, my parents…” I made a vague gesture to the house behind me.

“Oh right… we could sit in my car.” He mimicked my motion behind him towards the road.

“Um… I don’t know, Jensen. I mean…” I let my voice trail off. There wasn’t much that I’d like better than to sit in a dark private place with him where no one would interrupt us. I mentally blinked, realizing I hadn’t even admitted that to myself yet.

“Please?” His voice sounded a little strained, like it was very important that I say yes. I sighed and looked back towards the hallway. I could hear my father’s distant snoring and the rest of the house was quiet. If my parents woke up and found me out of the house without permission – in a car with a boy no less – I’d be grounded for sure. I knew I shouldn’t risk that with our plans for the next night, but a bigger part of me really wanted to go to him.

“Ok, hold on.” I put up one finger and then closed the door silently behind me as I stepped back into the house. I dashed as quietly as I could back to my room and grabbed my rain boots and my house keys. I kept them cupped in my hand to keep them from making any noise and made it back out the front door. Jensen had gone a few steps down our front walk and was staring out at the road with his back to me. I realized my stomach was tied up in knots that made it hard to breathe. Me, nervous?

Half Blood Teasers!

I promise this is my last post regarding Half Blood this month! I PROMISE!

So here are some of my favourite teasers from this awesome book!(all teasers are from the ARC there may be changes in the final copy)

At first, it wasn’t much of a kiss. My lips just brushed his, and when he didn’t move away, I pushed harder. *** seemed too stunned to do much of anything for a few seconds. But then he released my wrists and his hands slid up my arms.
The kiss deepened, full of passion and anger. There was also frustration, so much frustration. Then *** pressed down, and I wasn’t the one doing the kissing.

“Lucian is nothing to me. What you saw in that office was bizarre.
He must’ve been high on power or meth.”
“Then you would not be upset if I said he was a pompous ass?”

The fork fell from my fingers, splattering mashed potatoes across the table. I mustered my best “ice princess” look and met his gaze. “You’re in my personal space, buddy.”
A playful smile graced his lips. “So? What are you going to do about it? Throw your mashed potatoes at me? I’m consumed by terror.”

“You show amazing strength,” he murmured, stirring the hair around my ear.
I forced my eyes open. “Oh… I’m just saving all of this up for years of therapy later.”

“Ugh. Okay. I get what you’re saying: it could be worse. Try telling me when I don’t look like I went to third base with a vampire. So why are you here?

Then he leaned forward and rested his cheek against mine. Hot tingles spread through me as his lips moved against my ear. “You should tell me to stop.”
I didn’t say a word.

He moved, ever so slightly, and his lips brushed across mine once, and then twice. It was such a soft, beautiful kiss, but when the kiss deepened, it wasn’t a shy one. This was one of dangerously pent-up need, a desire that’d been denied far too long. The kiss felt fierce, demanding, and soul burning.

Review: Crave by Melissa Darnell

 Blurb:
Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.
For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences….

My Thoughts:
Before I start ,I would like to make one thing very clear if you HATE Twilight with your heart and soul, you will not like this book.
*EDIT= I DON'T HATE TWILIGHT! This is for people who do*
That said,I can say I enjoyed this book.Even though I had a weird sense of dejavu while I was reading it ,I couldn't put the book down and this book managed to keep my attention.
This book is told from both Tristan's and Savannah's point of view(YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!)
I love it when I can get into a guy's head and see what's going on!
I liked Savannah, she was responsible and even though she did remind me of Bella ,she wasn't annoying. She used her brain and didn't act like a dumb idiot when someone she cared for was in danger.I loved the fact that she had such a nice relationship with her grandmother.
One thing I really liked about this book was Tristan.I liked him and the fact that I could actually read what was happening in his head helped me to understand him.
It was a little uncanny that both Savannah and Tristan has so much in common(situation wise NOT personality wise) and sometimes I felt like I should slap them and just tell them to get together already!
Some of my favorite scenes in this book are between Tristan and Savannah's best friend.I also enjoyed  Tristan's reactions to situations Savannah ended up in .
I would recommend you to read this book for Tristan because this book doesn't exactly consist of  a new spin on the vampire legends.Though the  Clann VS Vampires thing is a little interesting.
My Rating: 3/5
FUN READ
Quotes( from ARC may differ in  finished copy):

  • I gulped and leaned back in my chair again as I tried to think straight. To remember all the reasons why kissing that curve where her neck and shoulder met would be a bad idea.

  • “I can see why. And is that when you impress everyone with your manly snake-killing skills?” “Uh, no.” He twisted halfway toward me, his smile lopsided. “That’s when my dog Jake impresses everyone with his snake-killing skills, while I run off screaming like a girl and grab a shovel.”
These aren't my favorite quotes but the others are too SPOILERY!

YA Spooktacular

Welcome to my stop for the second annual YASpooktacular, hosted by Frenzy of Noise and Wicked Awesome Books.
This year, there are three stories written by some of your favorite authors that will be posted throughout the week. Each story is a choose your adventure, where you get to decide what path to send the character down. Sometimes you live, sometimes you die, and sometimes you fall into a pit of no return.

There are also some TRICKS or TREATS scattered throughout the story, where you can enter to win prizes and get bonus points toward the prize packs. The prize pack for The Pond in the Forest  will be up tomorrow! On Halloween day, the grand prize pack will be posted. You can click the banner above to see a full list of the YASpooktacular prize packs!

About the author:

Christina Ferko didn’t start reading until her sister shoved (quite literally & rather forcefully) the Twilight books at her. Now she's read more books than she can count. Christina loves any good story but her passion in reading & writing is YA. When it came to writing, Christina was a late bloomer with that as well. She didn't start creating worlds & telling stories until her early twenties (she's 26 now--only one year away from her favorite number). Christina makes up for her lack of a childhood spent scribbling stories with an obsession for it now. You can frequently find her staring off into space or gesturing rather awkwardly (which is slightly embarrassing while in a coffee shop) with a computer in front of her as she works out scenes in her head.

You can find Christina on her blog where she talks about books, the one where she talks about writing and on twitter.

Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/christinaferko
Blog: (writing): www.tangledupinwords.blogspot.com
(books): http://www.christinasbooks.blogspot.com/

How this works:
One author will start the story and leave it in a place where the reader can choose what happens next by going to blog A or blog B. At some locations, another author will write two scenarios, which will allow the reader to choose what will happen next and the story will continue on another blog(s).

The fun part of this is that sometimes, you die. Sometimes, you live. Sometimes, you fall into a pit and wait for someone to find you. The three stories will be separate--with a new character and new challenges.

You can pick up the story from the beginning by clicking on the banner below!

My Part of the story is............

Laura struggled to even hold the sword. Her hands were still covered in mud and
grime, making the heavy hilt slide in her grip.
“Do it, my love,” Raven whispered in Laura’s ear. His voice was seductive and
tempting as it wrapped around her. Laura felt power course through her as he spoke,
filling her with its alluring promise. Its quiet murmur, begging for release, was stronger
than anything she’d ever felt before.
Raven guided her arm up, raising the weapon with her, as Feign led the two
humans to the dais—to their death. More and more the power flowed through her until
even her sword, yearning to taste blood, hummed with its intensity.
“You feel it, don’t you?” Raven asked. He looked down at Laura. A smile that
wasn’t quite warm sliced across his face. “Swirling within you. Growing in strength.”
“What is it?” The words released a breath that Laura didn’t even realize she’d held.

“Our power.” His voice turned hard and a fire lit his black eyes. Laura shrunk
back as she stared into his soulless gaze. But she didn’t pull away completely. Even with
his unsettlingly dark eyes, she was still drawn to him.
“Our vengeance,” Raven said.

As soon as he spoke, the power disappeared, leaving Laura feeling like she’d
been pushed into that freezing pond all over again. A bitter wind howled through the
court, mingling with the shouts of the creatures that cried for blood. They screeched
and laughed—a sound as distorted as their twisted bodies—while the prisoners were
paraded around. Feign jerked on the chains. The monsters cackled and jeered even
more as Brian and Amanda fell to ground at Laura’s feet.
“A gift for our missing queen,” Feign said.

With one webbed hand, Feign lifted Amanda’s face. He ran a finger down her
cheek, letting his claw scrap her skin and draw a line through the blood already there.
She shook with sobs, unable to even speak.
Feign lifted his finger to his mouth, licking the blood there. “Delicious,” he said.
The bile that rose in Laura’s mouth was overshadowed by the power that ran through
her once more. It was almost too hot as it burned within her.
“Don’t taint yourself with their blood,” Raven snapped at his brother. “And don’t
play with my queen’s offering.” He turned to Laura, his voice softer. “For you, my love.”
“P-Please, Laura,” Brian sobbed. “I-I’m sorry. Don’t kill us.” His words were half-
choked and hard to understand as he cried. “I had to. They made me.”
Feign’s foot lashed out, faster than humanly possible, connecting with Brian’s
head. Brian let out a sound like a wounded animal before slouching to the ground,
unmoving. Next to him, Amanda wept harder, her hysterical cries feeding the creatures’
frenzy behind her.
“Now,” Raven told Laura. He loosened his grip, letting his fingers stroke up her
arms. His touch trailed her bare skin until he stood behind her, his hands resting on her
shoulders. She wanted to run away from the scene before her even though her body
leaned into Raven’s warm hold. “Show them our power, my love,” Raven whispered to
her. “Show them your power.”
